We took a vacation at the beginning of Autumn last year and stayed in Cascade Locks at the Best Western right next to the Bridge Of The Gods. The room was nice, including a jacuzzi tub (which we never even used)… The only drawback was that there was a train siding right below the hotel. The management was considerate enough to include a couple of pair of earplugs in the room! It did give me an opportunity to record a train passing while I was having my morning coffee.

I missed a day, so I washed my car as penance. (Actually, I went to the car wash… This one gets a bit noisy in the middle, so don’t turn those headphones up too loud!)

I dropped by the pond across the way from the Hull’s Gulch Learning Center to see if I could find the owls that a few people have told me about, but it must have been too early… I’ll have to try to make it out sometime after dinner. Not to waste the opportunity to set up my gear I went down to the edge of the pond and set up my recorder & mic. I realized that I left the fuzzy windscreen in the truck so I left the recorder going & trudged back up the hill. While I was gone a blackbird landed in the tree next to my mic.

This morning’s snow turned to the afternoon/evening rain, and microphones don’t like the rain… Here’s the sound of the snow melting into a drainpipe on our hill. (Note: I recorded this on the 1st of the month, so I’m cheating a bit here.)
Oh, yeah- I wouldn’t listen to this with a full bladder.

I was considering uploading an older sound, since I’m still feeling crappy, but then I played back yesterday’s Squirrel Wars sound and our 2 schnauzers went a bit nuts looking for squirrels in the house… So I recorded Nicky charging out the back door.
